Arsala Jamal ( Pashtun ارسلا جمال; * 1966 in Paktika ; † October 15, 2013 in Pul-i-Alam , Lugar ) was an Afghan politician and provincial governor.

Life

Jamal went to school in Kabul and Peshawar, Pakistan . He studied in Malaysia .

He later moved to Canada with his family . After the invasion of US troops and the overthrow of the Taliban regime, he returned to Afghanistan. Jamal has now worked for various international organizations such as Care International . He also became governor of Chost Province and acted as acting minister for tribal affairs. He then became governor of Lugar Province in April 2013. As such, he planned to intensify copper mining in the province and thus attract foreign investors.

Jamal was considered a confidante of President Hamid Karzai . In 2009 he had worked as a campaign manager for Karzai.

Jamal died on October 15, 2013 in an attack on the largest mosque in the provincial capital, Pul-i-Alam. He had been there on the occasion of the festival of sacrifice to give a speech.
