Arthur Drechsler

Arthur Theodor Drechsler (born May 1, 1882 in Pohlitz , † June 22, 1922 in Gera ) was a German politician ( SPD , USPD ). From 1918 he was a member of the Reuss state governments and parliaments and from 1920 to 1922 a member of the Thuringian state parliament .

Life

Arthur Drechsler was the son of master weaver Franz Theodor Drechsler and Anna Maria Drechsler, nee Trummer. After attending elementary school in Langenwetzendorf , he completed an apprenticeship as a shoemaker. Until 1919 he worked as a warehouse keeper for the consumer association in Zeulenroda . He was a member of the trade union and the SPD (from 1917 USPD). From 1911 to 1919 he held the position of chairman of the trade union cartel in Zeulenroda.

After the November Revolution, Drechsler was a member of the state government of the Free State of Reuss older line from November 1918 to April 1919 . Following the unification of the two Russian Free States, he was a member of the state government of the People's State from April 1919 and was a member of the Gera-Greiz regional government until March 1922. In all state governments he headed the department for popular education. From April until his death in June 1922 he was head of the Gera-Greiz area.

Drechsler was a member of the Reuss State Council for Gera-Greiz from January 1919 to March 1922. In 1919 he stood in the election for the German National Assembly as a candidate in constituency 36 (Thuringia), but won no mandate. As a member of the USPD belonged to the united state parliament of both Free States and the regional representative of Gera-Greiz. After the unification of the small Thuringian states to form the State of Thuringia , he was elected to the newly constituted state parliament in June 1920, to which he was a member until the end. From July 20, 1920 to July 30, 1921 he was President and from October 6, 1921 to June 22, 1922 Vice-President of the Thuringian Parliament .

Arthur Drechsler was married to Johanne Marie Drechsler (née Keller, 1882–1965), the daughter of a typesetter.
