Arthur Johnson ( April 12, 1879 - May 23, 1929 ) was an English football player and coach .

Career as a player

Johnson was one of the team's first players after Real Madrid was founded on March 6, 1902. On May 13, 1902, he scored the first goal in the history of the Royal in what was also the first Clásico against FC Barcelona . In 1905 he won the Spanish Cup with Real Madrid , the city's first national title ever, and was able to repeat this success in the three following years. He also won the regional championship five times as a player with the Merengues .

Career as a coach

After hanging up his football boots in 1910, he remained the first coach in the club's history until 1920, making him the second longest coach in Real Madrid's history after Miguel Muñoz . As a coach, he won the Spanish Cup and five other regional championships in 1917.
