Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr. (born September 22, 1951 in Mount Kisco , New York ) is an American editor and publisher. Until the end of 2017 he was editor and publisher of the " New York Times ".

Life

Sulzberger comes from the founding family of the New York Times and took over the post of editor from his father Arthur Ochs Sulzberger in 1992 and has been the CEO of the owner company since 1997. The Sulzberger family is of German - Jewish descent. His mother has English and Scottish ancestry.

1974 Sulzberger graduated from Tufts University in Medford (Massachusetts) in political science with a bachelor's degree . He then worked for the Raleigh Times in Raleigh , North Carolina from 1974 to 1975 as a reporter and then went to London as a correspondent for the Associated Press until 1978 . Since 1978 he worked for The New York Times as a correspondent in their office in Washington, DC , from 1981 he was responsible for the New York city edition, first as a reporter and later that year as deputy editor. In 1985 he graduated from Harvard Business School in Management Development .

Sulzberger got to know the commercial and technical departments at the Times . He was responsible for planning the new printing facilities in Edison, New Jersey, and College Point in Queens, New York . At the same time he developed the website for the newspaper and the blog for the New York Times.

Sulzberger's marriage to the artist and journalist Gil Gregg in 1975 has a son and a daughter. On January 1, 2018, he handed over the editor of the "New York Times" to his son Arthur Gregg Sulzberger .
