Arthur Pétronio

Arthur Pétronio (born April 12, 1897 in Davos -Platz; † April 19, 1983 ) was a Swiss - Belgian - French violinist and sound poet .

Life

Arthur Pétronio was born in Switzerland as the son of Leopoldo Fregoli . He studied in Liège and Amsterdam and lived in Belgium and the Netherlands between 1910 and 1924. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Eugène Ysaÿe . Pétronio was a member of the Orchester du Théâtre Royal de Liège .

Pétronio published several avant-garde poetry magazines in Belgium, including Créer (1922–1923), through which he made contact with ELT Mesens , Franz Hellens , Le Corbusier , Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso . In 1924, Pétronio moved to France.

In 1919 he invented the concept of “verbophonie” and thus found a way to integrate sound poetry into scores . Pétronio worked several times with Henri Chopin .
