Both brothers died in the war, one was shot by a German soldier one day after the declaration of an armistice in Paris, the other during sabotage on a train.

Henri Chopin is known as a body voice researcher. As a sound artist , he developed electrically amplified sound compositions with François Dufrêne and Bernard Heidsieck , which he called "Poésie sonore".

Chopin uses the human body as a sounding instrument and uses the microphone to isolate sounds that were not previously perceived and process them in numerous electroacoustic works . He has created sound and visual works, sculptures, plays and experimental films. In 1964 Chopin published the first edition of records for audio poetry.

In 1966, Chopin took part in the Destruction in Art Symposium (DIAS) in London - alongside Gustav Metzger , Otto Muehl , Wolf Vostell , Peter Weibel and others.

Since the early 1970s, Chopin has worked with the Atelier de création of Radio France , the Stockholm Fylkingen-Studio and the Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln . Chopin was represented at numerous international festivals of sound poetry. He also appeared in concert performances.

Between 1958 and 1974 Chopin published the avant-garde magazine “Cinquième Saison” and from 1964 to 1974 “OU”, a magazine on sound poetry, which among other things offered a forum for contemporary authors and artists of Lettrism and Fluxus . Jiří Kolář , Ian Hamilton Finlay , Tom Phillips , Brion Gysin , William S. Burroughs , Raoul Hausmann and Marcel Janco were introduced. Sound poets such as Paul de Vree , Åke Hodell , Arthur Pétronio , Pierre Albert-Birot , Ladislav Novák and Bob Cobbing were also given the opportunity to publish.

In 1987 Chopin took part in documenta 8 with “Le Corpsbis” .

“Le Corpsbis”: In 1966 I realized the audio poem “Le Corps” (The Body). “Le Corpsbis”, Audiopoem in eight sentences, is a second body in the meaning of the Latin word “repetere” - looking for the body again. I am obsessed with what physical poetry is. I used the oral cavity, the windpipe, the breath, the sound of the body. The body, the mouth as a sound body, as an instrument. "
