Pierre Albert-Birot (born April 22, 1876 in Angoulême , † July 25, 1967 in Paris ) was a French poet and author who was close to Dadaism .

life and work

Pierre Albert-Birot was born in the Charente department and moved to Paris with his mother at the age of 16 . Georges Archard made it possible for him to learn the profession of sculptor and stonemason at the art school. He later took drawing lessons from Gustave Moreau and then worked in the sculpture workshop of Alfred Boucher . He married and earned a living as a restorer at an antique dealer and as a stonemason on the facades of elegant town houses. In the First World War he was retired as unfit for war and was then able to publish the magazine "sic" from 1916 to 1919. "Sic" means in Latin: "That's how it is" and at the same time has the first letters of the French words S on, I dee, C ouleur / Laut, Idea, Color. The first employee of the magazine "sic" was Guillaume Apollinaire . Louis Aragon , André Breton , Jean Cocteau , Blaise Cendrars , Pierre Drieu la Rochelle , Jules Romains , André Salmon , Tristan Tzara , Francis Picabia , Raymond Radiguet , Philippe Soupault , Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse joined them. In December 1919 the last number of "sic" appeared. Pierre Albert-Birot's comment was: "Avant-garde magazines have to die young."

Pierre Albert-Birot wrote typographic poems, simultaneous poems, poster poems, poetry objects, square, rectangular, round, oval, checkerboard-like poems, sound poems , radio plays , film scripts and a total of 12 plays, which he understood as anti-theater.
