Arthur Ringwalt Rupley

Arthur Ringwalt Rupley (born November 13, 1868 in West Fairview , Cumberland County , Pennsylvania , †  November 11, 1920 in Carlisle , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1915 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Arthur Rupley attended the Harrisburg Academy and the Cumberland Valley State Normal School in Shippensburg . After a subsequent law degree at the Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle and his admission to the bar in 1891, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1895 and 1898 he was their district chairman in Cumberland County. From 1895 to 1899 he was also a district attorney there . He then acted as the legal representative of this district until 1906. In 1910 he took part in the regional Republican Party Convention for Pennsylvania; in June 1912 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Chicago , on which President William Howard Taft was nominated for re-election, which was unsuccessful.

In the 1912 congressional election , Rupley was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 33rd  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1913. Until March 3, 1915 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . During this time the 16th and 17th amendments were ratified. It was about the nationwide introduction of income tax as well as the direct election of US senators .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Arthur Rupley practiced as a lawyer again. He specialized in the field of public services. He died on November 11, 1920 in Carlisle, where he was also buried.
