Arthur Sellings

Arthur Sellings (actually Arthur Gordon Ley ; born May 31, 1921 in Tunbridge Wells , Kent , England , † September 24, 1968 in Worthing , Sussex , England) was a British science fiction author, scientist, bookseller and art dealer. His posthumously published novel Junk Day (German scrap world ), which describes the world after a nuclear holocaust, is considered his best work.

Life

Ley was the son of Arthur James Ley and Stella Grace, née Sellings. He spent most of his life in his hometown. On August 18, 1945, he married Gladys Pamela Judge. In addition to his writing activities, Ley was a bookseller and art dealer and antiquarian. Between 1955 and 1968 he was a scientific advisor to the British government.

Some of his works were inspired by his research. His short stories have appeared in Fantastic , Galaxy Science Fiction , Imagination , The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction , Nebula Science Fiction , New Worlds , New Writings in SF , and Worlds of Tomorrow , as well as other SF magazines.

Ley died of a heart attack in 1968 at the age of 47.
