Arthur Trappier

Arthur Benjamin Trappier , called "Art" or "Traps", (born May 28, 1910 in Georgetown , South Carolina, † May 17, 1975 in New York City ) was an American drummer of New Orleans jazz and swing .

Trappier played with Charlie Skeets in 1928 and with singer Blanche Calloway , Tiny Bradshaw and Buddy Johnson in the 1930s . From 1940 to 1943 he played (and recorded) with Fats Waller and then did his military service in World War II. He then played as a sideman with numerous swing and traditional jazz musicians, among others. a. by Teddy Wilson , Edmond Hall , with whom he recorded, Sy Oliver (1947), Art Hodes , Ralph Sutton , Tony Parenti , Sidney Bechet , Wilbur De Paris , Hot Lips Page , Red Allen , Conrad Janis , Wingy Manone , Rex Stewart , Josh White and Benny Goodman . In the 1950s, he led his own trio in hotels in New York and the Bronx. He toured and made recordings in Canada with Willie The Lion Smith . He was active until the 1970s.
