Nyandeni is a municipality ( Local Municipality ) in the OR Tambo District , Eastern Cape Province in South Africa . In 2011 the population was 290,390 on a total area of ​​2,474 km². The municipal administration is based in Libode .

The parish name is derived from the word inyanda from the isiXhosa language, which means a bundle of firewood that women carry on their heads.
