Two men, a pig and the night of Paris (original title: La traversée de Paris ) is a French comedy film from 1956 with Jean Gabin , Bourvil and Louis de Funès , which was also shown in the cinema under the title Across Paris . Directed by Claude Autant-Lara , the script is based on a short story by Marcel Aymé .

The film is set in 1942/43 in Paris, which had been occupied by the Wehrmacht since June 1940 . The unemployed taxi driver Martin occasionally takes on transports for the black market. His assistant has been arrested and a chance acquaintance, Grandgil, enters the business. The butcher Jambier hands them a black slaughtered pig in four suitcases, which Martin and Grandgil now transport through occupied Paris at night. In doing so, they experience some surprises and survive dangers, for example they are picked up by the German Gestapo .

For Louis de Funès, this supporting role was an important moment in his career. In this film he was able to prove his talent in a real role figure and caught the attention of the French film scene with his peculiar interpretation of the character Jambier.

For Autant-Lara it was the first public success. The film was released in the GDR under the title Quer durch Paris .

In 1958, the film was awarded the Prix ​​Méliès of the Association Française de la Critique de Cinéma . Jean Gabin was nominated for the British Academy Film Award for Best Actor . The film was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival and Bourvil was awarded the Coppa Volpi in the Best Actor category.
