Artyom Mikoyan
Artyom Ivanovich Mikoyan ( Russian Артём Иванович Микоян ; Armenian Արտյոմ Հովհաննեսի Միկոյան / Artem Mikoyan Howhannessi ; born July 23, jul. / 5. August 1905 greg. In Sanahin , Russian Empire , today Armenia ; † 9. December 1970 in Moscow ) was a Soviet aircraft designer.
Life
He was born the son of the carpenter Owanes Nersesowitsch Mikoyan and his wife Talida Otarowna. In 1918 the family moved to Tblissi , where Mikoyan attended middle school until 1923. After his school education he went to Rostov , where he worked as a machine operator in the metal factory "Krasny Aksai". In addition, he completed his training as a lathe operator at evening school. In June 1925 Mikoyan joined the CPSU and in November of the same year went to Moscow, where he found work as a lathe operator in the “Dynamo” plant.
In December 1928 he was drafted into the Red Army . After his military career, he worked again as a lathe operator from 1930, this time at the “Compressor” plant in Moscow. In 1931 he began to study at the "Zhukovsky" military academy . During his studies he trained as a pilot and parachutist. In addition, Mikoyan was involved in the development of the "Oktjabronok" (October Child) light aircraft .
On February 23, 1936, he married Soja Ivanovna Lissizina.
Mikoyan graduated from the Military Aviation Academy in 1937 as an engineer. First he worked as a military representative in an aircraft factory. In the same year he moved to Nikolai Polikarpow's design office and was soon responsible for the series production of the Polikarpow I-153 fighter aircraft . In March 1939, Mikoyan Polikarpows became deputy director of his aircraft factory 1.
On December 8, 1939, the OKB Mikoyan-Gurewitsch was founded with Mikhail Iossifowitsch Gurewitsch , which later achieved world renown in particular through powerful fighter planes (MiG). The developments of the OKB include such well-known jet fighters as the MiG-15 , MiG-21 and MiG-29 . In March 1942, Mikojan was appointed chief designer and in December 1956 general designer of the OKB.
Mikoyan became a corresponding member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences on October 23, 1953 . On March 14, 1954, he became a member of the Supreme Soviet for the first time (a total of four times). On November 26, 1968, Mikoyan became a member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
In addition to several state awards (1941, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1952, 1953), he was awarded the Order of Lenin three times (1940, 1955, 1965), the Order of the Red Star (1942) and twice as a hero of socialist work (1956, 1957) . Mikoyan was a brother of longtime Politburo member Anastas Mikoyan .
