The Artlenburger Deichverband is a dyke association founded in 1862 with headquarters in Hohnstorf . The association has existed in its current form since 1889 (constituted on November 8, 1889).

Association area

The Deichverband is responsible for an area of ​​31,261  hectares in the north of the Harburg and Lüneburg districts. The area is divided into a tidal area with an area of 10,548 hectares and a flood area with an area of 20,713 hectares. It extends from Winsen (Luhe) in the west to Bleckede , district of Walmsburg, in the east.

The protected area in the tidal area of ​​the Elbe includes all plots of land protected by the main dikes up to a height of +8.00 m above sea ​​level including the higher ground elevations within this area. The tidal area is delimited by an imaginary line in the extension of the bridge of the federal highway 404 over the barrage Geesthacht to Wittorf and from there to the federal highway 39 northwest of Bardowick .

The dike length in the area of ​​responsibility of the Artlenburger Deichverband is around 75 kilometers. Of this, 13.35 kilometers are on the left dike in the tidal area of ​​the Elbe below the Geesthacht barrage up to the Ilmenausperrwerk , 39.85 kilometers on the flood dikes on the left of the Elbe between the Geesthacht and Bleckede barrages, 13.9 kilometers on the dike on the Ilmenau Canal and 3 Kilometers on the dike on the Neetze Canal .

The association area of ​​the Artlenburger Deichverband borders in the west on the association area of ​​the Deich- und Wasserverband Vogtei Neuland .

tasks

The dyke association has the task of protecting properties in the association area from storm surges and floods. To this end, he maintains the dikes in the association area.

Association structure

The association is represented by an association committee that is elected by the association members. The committee is known as the Assembly of Deputies. It has 21 members and in turn elects a board of eight members. A personal representative is also elected for each member of the board.

Members of the association are all landowners and leaseholders of the properties located in the association area.
