Artur de Souza Nascimento

Tute (born July 1, 1886 in Rio de Janeiro ; † June 15, 1957 ibid), actually Artur de Souza Nascimento, was a Brazilian musician. He played six and seven string guitars , mandolin and banjo .

Life

His musical career began at a young age playing percussion instruments such as bombo (a big drum) and cymbals with the well-known group Banda do Corpo de Bombeiros under the direction of Anacleto de Medeiros in Rio de Janeiro, who made several recordings for Casa Edison was involved. He also made recordings as a guitarist with Chiquinha Gonzaga's group for Odeon and Columbia . During this time he got to know Donga and Pixinguinha , whom he accompanied as a flautist on his first solo recordings.

In the 1930s, he introduced the seven-string guitar to choro music by adding a low C-string to the six-string guitar.

From 1929 to 1945 he accompanied the mandolinist Luperce Miranda as a guitarist on the radio ( Rádio Mayrink Veiga and Rádio Nacional ) in Rio de Janeiro. He also worked as a guitarist with many well-known musicians such as Luiz Americano , Carmen Miranda , Francisco Alves and Orlando Silva .
