Aryeh Bahir
Aryeh Bahir (birth name: Aryeh Geller ; Hebrew אריה בהיר; * May 1, 1906 in Odessa , Russian Empire ; † September 13, 1970 ) was an Israeli politician who was elected as a member of the first Knesset in 1949.
Life
After attending the Hebrew High School in Odessa, Bahir studied at the Polytechnic Institute there and was already involved in the socialist - Zionist scout organization Hashomer Hatzair during this time .
After immigrating ( Aliyah ) to the League of Nations area of Palestine in 1924, he was one of the founders of the Afikim kibbutz in 1936 and was one of the leaders of the Hashomer Hatzair movement in the Mapai , the party of workers in the Land of Israel, and in the kibbutz movement .
Bahir, who was a board member of the construction company Soleh Boneh , was elected to the first Knesset after the establishment of the State of Israel on February 14, 1949 and was a member of this until the end of the legislative period on August 20, 1951. Between August 15, 1955 and November 30, 1959, he was again a member of the Knesset and, after becoming a member of the Rafi in 1965, was again a member of the Knesset from February 20, 1967 to November 17, 1969 for part of the fifth legislative period. During his membership in parliament he was a member of various Knesset committees and at times also a delegate from Israel to several conferences abroad.
In 1975 Aryeh Bahir 's biography, edited by Aryeh Ophir, was published under the title From Odessa to Afikim .
