Aryeh Bahir (birth name: Aryeh Geller ; Hebrew אריה בהיר; * May 1, 1906 in Odessa , Russian Empire ; † September 13, 1970 ) was an Israeli politician who was elected as a member of the first Knesset in 1949.

Life

After attending the Hebrew High School in Odessa, Bahir studied at the Polytechnic Institute there and was already involved in the socialist - Zionist scout organization Hashomer Hatzair during this time .

After immigrating ( Aliyah ) to the League of Nations area of ​​Palestine in 1924, he was one of the founders of the Afikim kibbutz in 1936 and was one of the leaders of the Hashomer Hatzair movement in the Mapai , the party of workers in the Land of Israel, and in the kibbutz movement .

Bahir, who was a board member of the construction company Soleh Boneh , was elected to the first Knesset after the establishment of the State of Israel on February 14, 1949 and was a member of this until the end of the legislative period on August 20, 1951. Between August 15, 1955 and November 30, 1959, he was again a member of the Knesset and, after becoming a member of the Rafi in 1965, was again a member of the Knesset from February 20, 1967 to November 17, 1969 for part of the fifth legislative period. During his membership in parliament he was a member of various Knesset committees and at times also a delegate from Israel to several conferences abroad.
