Aschenau is a church village in the municipality of Offenberg in the Lower Bavarian district of Deggendorf .

Aschenau lies between Schwarzach and Neuhausen , on the Schwarzach brook , in front of the heights of the Bavarian Forest .

history

Aschenau was first mentioned in the 12th century when it was still called "Eschenaue". In 1263 there was already a forester's house with an inn. In 1808, Aschenau formed the municipality of Penzenried with the then even larger neighboring town of Penzenried . Before that, Aschenau was administered by the Mitterfels district court . In 1869 the first school was built in Aschenau and 18 years later the local church, which is still standing today. For their own pastor, the citizens built a parsonage on their own, which was completed in 1913. A cemetery was also built in 1938 and a morgue was added in 1968. The schoolhouse, which burned down in 1935 and was immediately rebuilt, was expanded in 1964 with a second classroom. After 165 years of existence, the municipality of Penzenried was incorporated into the municipality of Offenberg with the municipality of Buchberg.

Population and local development

In the area of ​​the former municipality of Penzenried only one house was counted in 1767, 16 in 1841 and 45 in 1846, and in 1875 there were 380 inhabitants in the census, today there are 414 inhabitants in 141 houses.
