Career

Wildeboer's parents were both born and raised in the Netherlands and emigrated to Spain in 1978 , where they settled in Sabadell. There Aschwin's father Paulus Wildeboer († 2014) was the coach of the local swimming club Club de Natación Sabadell.

Wildeboer took part in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , where he finished 29th over 200 meters and 35th over 100 meters back.

Two years later, at the European Swimming Championships in Budapest in 2006 , he reached the 14th final rank over the 50 meters, the 12th final rank over the 100 meters and the 16th final rank over the 200 meters back course.

In 2008 at the European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven , he narrowly missed the podium and finished fourth over the 100 meters and 200 meters back courses. He finished fifth in the 50 meter back seat. But it was enough to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing over 100 meters back. There he was finally able to advance to the finals and finish in seventh place.

His most successful title fights to date followed only six months later, the 2008 European Short Course Championships in Rijeka . There he won his first gold over the 200 meters back and two silver medals over the 50 meters and 100 meters back. For a short time he was able to set new European records there over the 50 meters and the 100 meters back.

At the Mediterranean Games in 2009, he achieved a new world record as a starting swimmer in the 4x100m medley relay with 52.38 seconds over 100 meters back. At the following world championships in Rome, he finished third over 100 m behind the Japanese world champion Jun'ya Koga and the German Helge Meeuw .
