Aslak Sira Myhre (born May 28, 1973 in Stavanger ) is a Norwegian librarian, author, journalist and former politician (RV, R ). Since May 2014 he has been director (“Nasjonalbibliotekar”) of the Norwegian National Library (NL).

Life

Myhre studied history and social anthropology at the University of Bergen . His father, Eldar Myhre, was a well-known union leader at Aker Kvaerner . Myhre worked as a sports journalist for the daily newspapers Klassekampen and Stavanger Aftenblad as well as on radio programs for NRK . His comment on the two attacks on July 22, 2011 attracted international attention.

Myhre wrote a number of books on football or politics . From 2006 to 2014 he was managing director of the Literaturhaus in Oslo . From 2003 to 2007 he was also chairman of the "! Les" association. This is committed to increasing the reading pleasure of children and young people.

On May 23, 2014, Culture Minister Thorhild Widvey appointed Myhre as director of the Nasjonalbibliotek for the Council of State. At the introduction she described him as an "experienced, committed and visionary leader". On August 12, 2015, Widvey and Myhre launched a “National Library Strategy” for the years up to 2018.

politics

Myhre got involved with the students at his university in the 1990s. In 1996 he was a member of the board of directors of the University of Bergen and in 1997 became party chairman of Rød Valgallianse (RV, Red Electoral Alliance ). Myhre sat for RV on Stavanger City Council from 1999 to 2003. In 2003 he resigned from both offices. In the parliamentary elections he ran unsuccessfully in Rogaland in 1997 and in Oslo in 2001 . In 2009 and 2013 he was on the electoral list of Rødt (R, Rote ) in Oslo.

family

Myhre is married to the journalist, publisher and martial artist Cathrine Sandnes , who was third in kickboxing in the 1994 European Championship . The couple have two daughters.
