Sampe received her education between 1928 and 1932 at the Konstfack Art School in Stockholm and at the Royal College of Art in London . In 1937 she came to Nordiska Kompaniet (NK), the elegant Stockholm department store, as a designer . The following year she took over the management of the newly established textile department. In 1939, together with Sven Markelius , she designed the Swedish pavilion at the world exhibition in New York .

At the Helsingborg exhibition in 1955 she presented the Linnelinjen (German linen line), which should revolutionize the linen cupboard of Swedish housewives. The audience was enthusiastic about the new formats and patterns of the colored sheets, kitchen towels and serviettes. Kökstrivsel (kitchen comfort ), a linen tea towel with red and black stripes, should develop into a classic . It corresponded to the Svenska Slöjdföreningen's slogan “vackrare vardagsvara” (prettier everyday object) and is still made by Klässbol Linneväveri .

During the 1950s, printed towels became popular, particularly Sampes Persson's kryddskåp (Persson's spice rack), which was dedicated to the ceramicist Signe Persson-Melin . Persson-Melin had brought out a series of ceramic spice pots with cork caps for the Helsingborg exhibition in 1955.

When Nordiska Kompaniet was restructured in 1972, Sampe left the company after 35 years. She founded her own studio in Stockholm, where she designed textiles and furnishings until her death.

Family
From 1936 to 1950 she was married to director Sten Hultberg with whom she had two children, Monica (born 1939) and Henrik (born 1942).
