Her graduation film for obtaining the diploma in 2009, The Inner War , was premiered at the Hof Film Festival 2009. It earned her a lot of attention with a special award at the 2010 Adolf Grimme Awards. She received the VG Eberhard Fechner grant Picture art .

Astrid Schult lives and works as a freelance director and camerawoman in Berlin.

The internal war

This documentary film deals with the trauma of American soldiers in the US military hospital in Landstuhl . Schult described this place as a “parallel world”, which is hardly noticed in Germany. It was "very difficult" to get a filming permit. It was given some conditions and a soldier reported that he had “received a media briefing” before the interview. Most returnees are "broken, for their whole life", said Schult in an interview in April 2010. Suicide and divorce rates are "very high" and many would "no longer find their way back into society". Among other things, the film was shown in April 2010 as part of the Achtung Festival in Berlin.

style

The sensitive handling of protagonists in difficult life situations and the intensive interviews outline their personal signature. This becomes clear not only in the description of the not exactly carefree everyday life of the child of a single parent in the circus , but also in the case of the US soldiers psychologically traumatized by the war experience in The Inner War . Schult also wrote the script for both productions.
