Atle Sturla Kvålsvoll (born April 10, 1962 in Trondheim ) is a sports director in cycling from Norway and a former cyclist .
Athletic career
In 1983 he took part in the UCI Road World Championships for the first time and was classified as 33rd in the amateur road race . In 1984 Atle Kvålsvoll started in the road race at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles and finished 20th. The following year he was Norwegian champion in the team pursuit and won a stage of the Tour of Norway . In 1987 he became Nordic champion in the team time trial .
In 1988 Kvålsvoll got a contract with Team Z , for which he drove until 1992. In 1989 he won the Tour of Sweden , in 1990 the Tour du Vaucluse and in 1991 the Trophée des Grimpeurs . He competed three times in the Tour de Suisse and was sixth overall in 1990 . In 1991 and 1992 he decided one stage of the Tour DuPont for himself and was second in the overall standings in both years. In 1994 he ended his active cycling career.
Sports director and trainer
From 1995 to 2000 Atle Kvålsvoll was the sports director of the Norwegian Cycling Federation NCF . In this role, he placed particular emphasis on promoting women's cycling in Norway. Since 2011 he has worked as a trainer for the Norwegian sports organization Olympiatoppen and is Thor Hushovd's personal advisor . He has also been the sporting director of the Norwegian Continental Team Sparebanken Sør since 2011 , together with his son Sebastian since 2014 . (As of 2017)
