Atru ( Hindi अटरू ) is a small town with around 13,000 inhabitants in the Baran district in the southeast of the Indian state of Rajasthan .
Location and climate
The small town of Atru is located about 4 km southwest of the Parbati River and about 31 km southeast of the district capital Baran at an altitude of about 290 m . The climate is mostly dry and warm; Rain (approx. 860 mm / year) falls almost exclusively during the summer monsoon season .

economy
The villagers live - largely self-sufficient - almost exclusively from agriculture. There are small traders, artisans and day laborers in the city itself. The place has a passenger station.
Attractions
At the site are the ruins of several Hindu temples from the 10th century that were destroyed by Islamic army units passing through . Two Mithuna reliefs stolen in 2009 returned from the USA in 2014.
