Aude (born June 22, 1947 in Montréal , † October 25, 2012 in Québec ; born Claudette Charbonneau ) was the pseudonym of the French-Canadian writer Claudette Charbonneau-Tissot .

Life and work

Aude was born in Montréal in 1947 as Claudette Charbonneau, daughter of the secretary Aurore Lemire and the grain wholesaler René Charbonneau. She studied French literature at the Université de Montréal and creative writing at the Université Laval . In 1985 she received her PhD in French literature from the Université Laval. From 1977 she taught at the Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel François-Xavier Garneau.

Aude wrote for various magazines, including a. for La Barre du jour and Châtelaine . Some of her texts appeared under her real name. Cet imperceptible mouvement , the most successful of her short story books , won the 1997 Governor General's Award for Fiction . In addition, her works were on the shortlist of numerous prizes, including a. the Prix de l'Académie des lettres du Québec, Prix France-Québec, Prix Paris-Québec, Canada Council Molson Prize and the Prix Archambault.

Audes last volume of short stories, Éclats de lieux , appeared a few weeks before her death. She died of leukemia in 2012 .

Trivia

In 1999, Jill Cairns received the John Glassco Translation Prize for translating Cet imperceptible mouvement into English (The Indiscernible Movement).
