August Macke Prize

The August Macke Prize , named after the painter August Macke , was first in 1959 by the districts Arnsberg , Brilon , Meschede and Olpe donated.

The prize was awarded by the Kulturring for the Sauerland region of Cologne in 1959, 1964 and 1969. In 1974, the city council of Meschede , the birthplace of August Macke , decided to award the August Macke Prize of the city of Meschede in the future. Since then, the award has honored special achievements in the diverse development in the field of fine arts with reference to the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

The August Macke Prize has been awarded by the Hochsauerlandkreis since 2008 and is now to be awarded every three years. This newly institutionalized form of the August Macke Prize arose from the merger of the Hochsauerlandkreis Culture Prize and the August Macke Prize of the city of Meschede .

The award, currently endowed with € 20,000, is presented in the August Mackes baptistery. A further € 20,000 is available for an exhibition with accompanying publication.

As part of the overall concept of the August Macke Prize , the Cultural Foundation of the Westfälische Provinzial Versicherung donates the August Macke Prize . The culture award was created to promote, honor and disseminate new artistic activities in South Westphalia. Like the August Macke Prize, it is awarded every three years and is endowed with 5,000 euros, which must be used for the development of the artistic work. Eligible are artists up to the age of 28 who were born in the region of South Westphalia (Hochsauerlandkreis, Märkischer Kreis, Kreis Olpe, Kreis Siegen-Wittgenstein and Kreis Soest), who have had their first place of residence in the region for at least two years or who can be shown to have been predominantly in this region Region are artistically active.
