Heribert Glatzel

Heribert Glatzel (born August 9, 1927 in Friedland , Waldenburg district , Lower Silesia Province ; † August 3, 2015 in Esslingen am Neckar ) was a German artist. He became known as the painter Heribert Friedland and was considered an outstanding representative of watercolor painting.

Life

After attending the Carolinum grammar school, Heribert Glatzel was committed to military service as a student. After the end of the war, he trained as a religion teacher and worked as a teacher.

In 1957 he opened his own studio and worked as a freelance artist “painter Heribert Friedland”. He also studied painting at the Stuttgart Art Academy and art history, philosophy and New Testament sciences at the University of Stuttgart . For many years he held a teaching position at the University of Stuttgart.

His main work as an artist, scientist and craftsman was art in building, windows for churches, ceramic walls for large buildings and concrete reliefs for schools as well as postcard-sized formats of his watercolors. He has had numerous solo exhibitions, including at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart , the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, Herder & Herder in New York and the Pavlovsk Palace in Leningrad. He lived and worked in Aichwald-Aichelberg and Esslingen am Neckar. He was a founding member of the Lions Club Esslingen-Burg.

Heribert Glatzel was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land and was a member of the German Association of the Holy Land . In 1980 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien Cardinal de Fürstenberg and invested in the Papal Lay Order on May 10, 1980 in the Münster by Franz Cardinal Hengsbach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . Most recently he was Komtur (officer) of the Papal Laity Order.
