August Bach (pedagogue)

August Bach (born July 3, 1869 in Neuburg, Mammern municipality ; † December 2, 1950 in Kefikon ; resident in Weinfelden ) was a Swiss educator .

Life

August Bach was born on July 3, 1869 in Mammern-Neuburg as the son of the farmer Bernhard Bach. He completed his training as a primary school teacher at the cantonal teacher training college in Kreuzlingen , and then served at secondary schools in Wagenhausen , Stein am Rhein and from 1896 to 1906 in Müllheim . As a result, Bach acquired Kefikon Castle , where he and his wife built a rural education home .

From 1906 onwards, as a school inspector for the canton of Thurgau , Bach tried to transfer the teaching method that had been tried and tested in private schools to the state school, particularly in the area of ​​handicraft and handicraft lessons for boys. He developed teaching and illustration aids as well as experimental devices for independent learning, which were disseminated in teacher training courses in the rural education center. In addition, August Bach acted as the founder and long-standing president of the cantonal section of the Swiss Association for Handicrafts and School Reform.

August Bach, who was married to Halter, who was born Rosalia, died on December 2, 1950 at the age of 82 in Kefikon.
