August Bausch

August Bausch (born March 2, 1818 in Bonn , † February 28, 1909 ) was a German history , genre and portrait painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Bausch came from Bonn to the Düsseldorf Art Academy . Karl Ferdinand's son was his teacher there from 1835 to 1839 . After completing his studies, he worked in Düsseldorf and Bonn. In 1839 he exhibited the picture of Abraham and Isaac's sacrifice in Frankfurt am Main . As a history painter, the art professor Rudolf Wiegmann noticed him through his paintings Gretchen and Martha (after Goethe's Faust) (1841) and Knights Templar on the Morning Watch (1843). However, Bausch made a name for himself as a portrait painter and portrait draftsman in his hometown of Bonn, where he created portraits of students in particular, such as that of his nephew Hermann Deiters . His portrait of the Bonn astrologer Friedrich Wilhelm August Argelander , created around 1868, is also well known .
