August Becker (Author)

August Becker (born April 27, 1828 in Klingenmünster , † March 23, 1891 in Eisenach ) was a German writer . With his book Die Pfalz und die Pfälzer (1857), originally planned as a travel guide , he is considered one of the founders of Palatinate folklore .

August Becker grew up in Klingenmünster . After studying history in Munich , he worked for various newspapers, including the Fliegende Blätter , and from 1859 to 1864 editor of the Münchner Isar-Zeitung . In 1868 he moved to Eisenach. He was married to Johanna Friedrike Luise Scheurlin (born June 18, 1834), a daughter of the poet Georg Scheurlin . After his death he was first buried in Eisenach, later exhumed at the request of his children and taken to Klingenmünster. He is still buried here today.
