August Blencke

August Blencke (born November 7, 1868 in Calbe , † January 19, 1937 in Magdeburg ) was a German orthopedist and university professor.

Life

Blencke attended GutsMuths-Gymnasium in Quedlinburg . After graduating from high school, he studied medicine at the Philipps University in Marburg . In 1891 he became active in the Corps Hasso-Nassovia . At the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg for Dr. med. after receiving his doctorate , from 1893 he worked with Albert Hoffa in Würzburg and with Hermann Kümmell at the new Eppendorf General Hospital . In 1896 he opened a special clinic in Magdeburg. He was a part-time school doctor and was involved in the care of the disabled . During the First World War he was a senior staff doctor and regimental doctor in the field artillery regiment No. 4 until March 1915 , then in a field hospital of the IV Army Corps , which ordered him back home as a consulting orthopedic surgeon. In medical and social terms, he took special care of the war invalids . He was valued as an expert by the employers' liability insurance associations and health insurance companies . Appointed professor in 1918 , he headed the congress of the German Orthopedic Society in Magdeburg in 1923. On the way to Hermann Gocht in Leipzig he had an accident with his car in fog. He died of a skull injury at the age of 68.
