August Ernst

August Ernst (born December 2, 1880 in Aarau , † June 2, 1959 in Lausanne , resident in Aarau) was a Swiss federal judge .

Life

August Ernst, son of Friedrich Jakob Ernst and Anna nee Käser, devoted himself to studying law at the universities of Zurich , Munich and Leipzig after graduating from high school , which he achieved with the academic degree of Dr. iur. completed.

August Ernst began his professional career in 1906 as a clerk at the Bremgarten and Zofingen district courts . In 1911 he was given the post of court president in Aarau. From 1925 he worked as a chief judge and member of the Aargau Commercial Court.

On December 17, 1936, he was elected a member of the Federal Supreme Court. There he worked in the constitutional department until autumn 1937, then in the civil law department until he retired in 1950. In addition, August Ernst was a member of the Court of Cassation from 1941 to 1942 and of the Federal Criminal Court from 1945 to 1948 .

August Ernst - he was married to Anna Hulda, the daughter of Karl Friedrich Mahler - died on June 2, 1959 at the age of 78 in Lausanne.
