August Friedrich Timaeus

August Friedrich Christian Timaeus (also: Friedrich August Timaeus ) (born January 23, 1794 in Celle ; † April 1, 1875 in Dresden ) was a German entrepreneur .

August Friedrich Timaeus attended high school in his hometown of Celle. From 1809 to 1814 he completed a commercial apprenticeship in a materials store in Wolfenbüttel . He then worked in a "drug store" in Braunschweig until 1817 and as an office clerk and traveling salesman for the Reiners brothers in Braunschweig until 1823 . In the process he met Gottfried Jordan , with whom he founded the Jordan & Timaeus chocolate and chicory factory in Dresden in 1823 . This factory was located between today's Timaeusstrasse and Jordanstrasse to the east of Königsbrücker Strasse in Dresden- Antonstadt .

Food such as chicory coffee , pasta and chocolate were produced there. In 1830, the entrepreneurs installed a steam engine . The company quickly developed into one of the largest in Dresden and one of the most important chocolate manufacturers in Germany.

In 1853 Timaeus withdrew from the business.

August Friedrich Timaeus died in 1875 and was buried in the Inner Neustädter Friedhof (2nd Land, G). Timaeusstraße was named after him in Dresden.

The listed Timaeusvilla , a former company headquarters of Jordan & Timaeus , can still be viewed in the backyard of Alaunstrasse 71b in Dresden.

Honors

The plant genus Timaeosia Klotzsch from the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae) is named after Timaeus .
