from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

August Friedrich von Prosch († after 1794) was a Prussian major , knight of the order Pour le Mérite and chief of the fusilier battalion No. 9.

Life

Origin and family

August Friedrich was a member of a family from which several members served as officers in the Prussian army and who was raised to the nobility in 1787 with the Prussian Rittmeister in the hussar regiment "Blücher" Karl Wilhelm Prosch († May 26, 1800) .

Career

Prosch started an officer career in the Prussian army and on April 26, 1789 received the fusilier battalion No. 9, which his predecessor Major Kasper Gottlob von Diebisch did not transfer until February, but became vacant due to his illness-related death. At the revue in Breslau in September 1791 he received the Pour le Mérite for the first time. The second award took place on June 8, 1794. He took part with the battalion in the suppression of the Kościuszko uprising . His battalion was able to make a profit, especially in the battle of Rawka and the capture of Cracow .

Prosch was thus one of the few Prussian officers who received the Pour le Mérite, the highest Prussian military award, twice. His successor as chief of Fusilier Battalion No. 9 was Hermann Christoph von Ledebur on November 17, 1797 .
