August Harambašić, before 1891

August Harambašić (born July 14, 1861 in Donji Miholjac , Slavonia , Austrian Empire ; † July 16, 1911 in Zagreb , Austria-Hungary ) was a Croatian poet, writer, publicist, translator and politician.

Life

August Harambašić studied law in Vienna and Zagreb; He received his PhD in 1884 in Zagreb and in 1892 he became Doctor of Legal Profession . In 1894 he passed the judge's examination and in 1896 the bar exam successfully. He worked as an editor for various newspapers and was a leading politician of the Croatian party Stranka prava and in 1901 a member of the Austrian Imperial Council .

His first poetic works appeared in 1879. In addition to lyric poems, he wrote some epic poems and libretti. In 1887 he published a book with translations of Taras Shevchenko's poems and an extensive article on his work and life, and in 1899 a collection of stories by Marko Wowtschok that he had translated appeared . He has also translated works from Polish, Russian, Bulgarian and English.
