Life

August Jancke was a student of Siegfried Detlev Bendixen and a representative of the Hamburg School . He mainly created moonlight landscapes, which were well received at exhibitions in Hamburg. In the years 1829 to 1832 and 1834, paintings by him were raffled at the Kunstverein in Hamburg , including 1829 Mondschein , 1831 a view of the Wassertwiete , 1832 a view of the Hamburg harbor in the moonlight and 1834 a view of the St. Johanniskirche . On September 17, 1832, he and 14 other artists founded the Club of Hamburg Young Artists , which was soon renamed the Hamburg Artists' Association . He later resigned, but rejoined on August 6, 1835. His main creative period spanned the period from 1829 to 1833.

Due to “unhappy family circumstances”, he was physically and mentally very depressed and died on November 3rd, 1840 in the St. Georg General Hospital .

August Jancke is represented with works in the collections of the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte .
