August Kamber (born May 15, 1871 in Hägendorf ; † June 12, 1948 in Olten , Catholic , resident in Hägendorf and Olten) was a Swiss politician (SP) .

Life

August Kamber was born on May 15, 1871 in Hägendorf as the son of the railroad worker Philipp Kamber. Kamber was initially employed by the Swiss Central Railway from the age of 15 . He was employed as a brakeman at the Olten train station . In 1909 he moved to the consumer association in Olten, where he was head of department until 1919 . His last job was in Basel and Laufen from 1920 .

August Kamber, father of Arnold Kamber , a member of the Social Democratic National Council , married Luisa, born Bossard, who was born in Bleienbach in 1894 , and Elisa, who was born in Lamboingen, born Feutz in 1910. He died on June 12, 1948, four weeks after he was 77 years old in Olten.

Political career

August Kamber was one of the key figures in the social democratic labor movement in the Olten region between 1902 and 1910 . Parallel to this, he served from 1902 to 1909 as a local council . He also founded the Olten Railway Union in 1905 and the Olten and Surrounding Workers' Union in 1910. August Kamber's plans to integrate the shoe factory workers and to create a local workers' secretariat failed, primarily because of the resistance of the Catholic social movement. In 1908 he had to resign from the canton council mandate he had obtained in 1904 and 1908 under pressure from the SBB . After internal party disputes, August Kamber stepped into the second row in 1910 in favor of Jacques Schmid before finally retiring from politics in 1920.
