August Marx

August Marx (born July 8, 1906 in Mannheim ; † March 27, 1990 there ) was a German economist , priest and pastor . He founded the first chair for corporate human resources in German-speaking countries at the Mannheim Business School .

In his lectures and works he has always emphasized the application orientation of scientific engagement with this subject. In addition to his academic career as a university lecturer, he was active as a priest and pastor .

Life

After completing a commercial apprenticeship, Marx initially worked in an industrial company. In 1934 he passed his Abitur and began studying economics and social sciences at the University of Frankfurt / Main , which he completed five years later with a doctorate . In 1945 he completed his habilitation there in business administration. In 1947 Marx began studying Catholic theology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg , and in 1950 he was ordained a priest. After two years of work as a pastor, he was released for a university career.

From 1952, Marx taught at the Mannheim Business School, the forerunner of the University of Mannheim , initially as an adjunct professor for business administration. In August 1955 he became a professor for general business administration; In 1956 he founded the Institute for Business Administration of Transport. In 1957, Marx was rector of the university, was appointed honorary professor at the University of Heidelberg and received the Great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .

In 1961 August Marx was dean of the business administration department and founded the first chair for business human resources in German-speaking countries. Together with Curt Sandig , he was chairman of the Association of University Teachers for Business Administration from 1962 to 1964

1986 August Marx initiated by Gerhard Reber from the Johannes Kepler University of Linz with the dignity of Dr. hc excellent. In July 1971 he retired .

Since 1967 he was also an honorary member of the Catholic student association K.Ö.HV Mercuria Vienna in the ÖCV .
