(Heinrich) August (Julius) Mutzenbecher (born June 6, 1826 in Oldenburg ; † August 21, 1897 ibid) was a German administrative lawyer and state councilor in the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg .

Life

August Mutzenbecher came from the Oldenburg branch of the Hamburg merchant family Mutzenbecher and was the eldest son of the Oldenburg district president Friedrich Mutzenbecher . Wilhelm Mutzenbecher and Adolf Mutzenbecher were his younger brothers. He attended the Alte Gymnasium Oldenburg until his Abitur in 1845 and studied law at the universities of Heidelberg , Berlin and Göttingen until 1848 . After completing his studies, he entered the Oldenburg civil service. He was initially an auditor in the Ganderkesee administration and in the ministerial office. In 1853 he became secretary in the State Ministry in Oldenburg; In 1854 he came to the government of the Principality of Lübeck in Eutin, which belongs to the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, as a legal assistant .

In 1855 he returned to the Ministry of State and in 1856 transferred to the Grand Ducal government. Here he became a government assessor in 1857 and a councilor in 1863. He was a member of the commission for the decision of conflicts of competence and the commission for the exercise of state rights with regard to the Catholic Church.

In 1869 he was lecturer in the Department of the Interior and at the same time advisor for military affairs in the Department of Justice. In 1873 he was appointed to the Upper Government Council and in 1892 to the Privy Council of State.

From 1890 to 1897 he was chairman of the supervisory board of the Oldenburgische Landesbank and from May 1892 until his retirement on October 1, 1895 he was also president of the school supervisory authority, the Evangelical High School College.

Since 1857 he was married to Olivia, b. Migault (1836–1922), the daughter of the Bremen businessman Gerhard Friedrich Migault (1806–1898) and his wife Malvine Henriette nee. Focke (1811-1878). The couple had three sons and a daughter.

August Mutzenbecher wrote a biography of his grandfather Esdras Heinrich Mutzenbecher and a large number of articles for the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie .
