August Nebe (theologian)

Johann August Nebe (born March 14, 1826 in Koblenz , † April 10, 1895 in Roßleben ) was a German Protestant theologian and local researcher.

Live and act

Nebe was born the son of the garrison preacher Johann Friedrich Nebe, who became pastor in Roßleben in 1832 . Nebe got from the Rhine to Thuringia. From 1838 he attended the Roßleben monastery school and from 1844 the University of Halle , where he studied theology. In 1847 he moved to the University of Berlin , where he experienced the March fighting in 1848.

In December 1848 he took his first theological exam in Halle and his second exam in April 1850. In July 1852 he was ordained as an assistant preacher in Kirberg . In March 1853 he took over the second pastor's post in Herborn , where he mainly worked for the external mission. In 1855 he finally took over the second pastorate in Herborn and taught Nassau church history at the seminary there. From 1859 he also taught beliefs and morals. In 1861, after the death of the first pastor, he moved to his position and also took over the first professorship at the seminary. With the assumption of the office of the dean of the districts Dillenburg and Herborn he resigned the direction of the Herborn secondary school , but became a member of the theological examination committee in Wiesbaden .

At the beginning of May 1870, Nebe moved to Roßleben as his father's successor, where he worked as a pastor until the end of his life.

Nebe was a member of the Nassau Antiquities Association and an active member of the Harz Association for History and Antiquity , to whose magazine he contributed several articles on local history.

He was married to Lina Keßler, the daughter of Professor Keßler in Roßleben, with whom he had seven children.

Awards

In recognition of his extraordinary achievements, he was awarded the 4th Class Red Eagle Order in 1868 . The theological faculty of the University of Marburg appointed him a doctor of theology.
