August Rosiwal

August Karl Rosiwal (born December 2, 1860 in Vienna ; † October 9, 1923 there ) was an Austrian geologist .

Life

August Rosiwal studied engineering and electrical engineering at the Technical University in Vienna from 1878 to 1883 . From 1885 to 1891 he was Franz Toula's assistant at the chair for geology and mineralogy, from 1892 private lecturer for mineralogy and petrography and then from 1898 honorary lecturer for mineralogy.

In 1918 he took over the management of the Geological Institute at the University of Vienna .

Above all, he made a very detailed geological mapping of Austria. The grinding hardness is named after him after Rosiwal.

In 1953 Rosiwalgasse in Vienna- Favoriten and Vienna- Liesing was named after him.
