August Wagenmann

August Emil Ludwig Wagenmann (born April 5, 1863 in Göttingen , † August 12, 1955 in Heidelberg ) was a German ophthalmologist .

Life

August Wagenmann, son of the theologian Julius August Wagenmann , studied medicine at the Universities of Göttingen and Munich . Subsequently, he took up an assistant position at the Göttingen University Eye Clinic, which was headed by Theodor Leber . In 1888 he completed his habilitation as a private lecturer in ophthalmology, two years later he followed his teacher Theodor Leber to the University of Heidelberg .

In 1892 he accepted a chair for ophthalmology at the University of Jena , which he held until 1910. In the same year , Wagenmann , who had been appointed Privy Councilor , took over the chair and management of the clinic in Heidelberg, succeeding Theodor Leber, after he had previously rejected calls to Erlangen and Strasbourg . In 1935 he retired . A year later Wagenmann was honored with the honorary membership of the German Ophthalmological Society .

August Wagenmann - author of numerous scientific papers, especially in the field of pathological anatomy - received the Von Graefe Prize, created in memory of Albrecht von Graefe , for his experimental work on circulatory disorders in the choroid and retinal vessels .
