August Wagner (organist)
August Wagner (born August 28, 1816 in Stettin , † March 8, 1896 in Greifswald ) was a German organist and choirmaster . From 1845 to 1865 he was organist in Demmin , then royal music director and organist at St. Nikolai in Greifswald .
Wagner composed chorale preludes, motets, choirs and songs mainly for his own use (including How the Flowers Tremble Outside and The Earth Needs Rain ). In 1869 he published a chorale book. As a musical joke, he set the gender rules of the Zumpt grammar to music .
