August Wilhelm Karl von Hardenberg , since 1778 Count von Hardenberg (born December 26, 1752 in Hanover ; † January 30, 1824 in Hanover) was a Hanoverian captain and high court official in the Kingdom of Westphalia .

Life

origin

August Wilhelm Karl von Hardenberg came from the Lower Saxon noble family of Hardenberg and was the eldest son of Hans Ernst von Hardenberg (1729–1797) and Anna Eleonore Katharina von Wangenheim (1731–1786).

Career

After studying law at the University of Göttingen (1772–1775), he became an auditor at the court in Hanover in 1775. In 1779 he was appointed Drost by the Office of Hoya and in 1795 as head captain of the Office of Rotenkirchen . After he had already become castle captain in Hanover in 1797 , he was also appointed vice head stableman in 1806 .

After the conquests of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1807, he was forced to change into Westphalian service, as all his goods were in this area. He became Prefect of the Department of Fulda and State Councilor, later Crown Grand Jäger Master and Grand Master of Ceremonies of the Kingdom of Westphalia .

When the Kingdom of Westphalia was dissolved in 1813, Hardenberg withdrew into private life.

In 1818 Friedrich Wilhelm III awarded him . the Order of the Red Eagle 1st class and appointed him a real Prussian privy councilor and in 1821 a Prussian chamberlain .

family

On June 30, 1780 he married Marianne von Schlieben (born January 1, 1762).

They had two sons who died young:

  • Hans Karl Georg Ludwig (born May 3, 1786; † June 28, 1807 in Saalfeld )
  • Alfred Friedrich August (born July 1, 1797 in Hanover, † May 17, 1808 in Hardenberg )

and three daughters:

  • Caroline Adelheid Christiane (born March 19, 1784)
  • Therese Maria Anna (born November 8, 1788)
  • Emma Luise (born January 29, 1796), ⚭ February 19, 1822 with Christian Heinrich August von Hardenberg-Reventlow (born February 19, 1775 in Hanover; † September 16, 1841 in Hamburg), the son of Prince Karl August von Hardenberg .

The succession therefore passed to Hardenberg's younger brothers.

Association of "rear building" and "front building" Hardenberg

On August 26, 1800, August Wilhelm Karl von Hardenberg, ancestral lord of "Hinterhaus" Hardenberg, bought the estate "Vorderhaus" Hardenberg for 280,000 thalers from his second cousin, the later Prussian State Chancellor Karl August Fürst von Hardenberg . A family reunion in Leipzig in March 1801 approved the unification of both houses with the stipulation that they may not be separated again in future and that Karl August von Hardenberg should buy a family estate of similar value elsewhere.
