August von der Heydt 1881–1943

August von der Heydt (born October 8, 1881 in Elberfeld ; † March 11, 1943 Wuppertal -Elberfeld) was a German banker and patron.

Life

He was the son of August von der Heydt (1851–1929) and Selma von der Heydt (1862–1944), née Haarhaus. He was closely associated with his brother Eduard von der Heydt (1882–1964), who was one year younger . They were taught together and also studied law and political science together in Geneva and Friborg . In 1901 August joined his family's banking house, the von der Heydt-Kersten & Sons banking house . He interrupted his career in order to obtain a doctorate in Freiburg in 1905. In 1912 he became a co-owner of the bank. August held several honorary posts, he was a poor carer , chairman of the Wuppertal zoo and Greek vice-consul. He always wore a cross around his neck, visible on a wide cloth. Since he, like his brother Eduard, had no descendants, he was the last partner in the bank who came from the von der Heydt family.
