Auguste Ledru (* 1860 in Paris , France , † 1902 in France) was a French sculptor .

Life

Auguste Ledru studied at the École des Beaux-Arts with Auguste Jean , Jean-Marie Bonnassieux , Émile-André Boisseau and Thomas. He was friends with Auguste Rodin .

Although he was trained as a sculptor for statues, he preferred to create decorative art in the Art Nouveau style with smaller figures, which often depicted sensual nudes of nymphs. He often combined these with natural objects such as shells or other marine animals. His works include vases , goblets , dinner services and ornamental fountains .

From 1883 he exhibited at the salons of the Société des Artistes Français , where he received an honorable mention in 1892 . He was awarded a bronze medal at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 . Ledru had a workshop in Auvers-sur-Oise .

The fine art foundry Susse Frères made about forty of his designs in bronze, silver and tin. Other of his works were distributed by the Éditeur d'art (art publisher) Arthur Goldscheider .

Ledru's daughter Augustine-Alice Ledru married the glass artist René Lalique in 1902 and was the mother of Suzanne Lalique-Haviland and Marc Lalique .
