Auguste Stéphane , actually Jean Auguste Étienne (born February 9, 1863 in Metz , † February 12, 1947 in Publier ) was a French cyclist .

Auguste Stéphane was active as a cyclist from 1891 to 1901. In 1892 he won the second edition of the Bordeaux – Paris race , which ran over 600 kilometers. The following year, he finished second behind Louis Cottereau in this race and won Basel - Strasbourg . In 1894 he won Paris - Spa and in 1897 Toulouse - Agen - Toulouse , which he competed with Jean Bertin . At the third edition of Paris – Roubaix in 1898, he finished second behind Maurice Garin .

On January 6th and 7th, 1894, Stéphane and the driver Jean-Marie Corre fought a match over 1000 kilometers in the Vélodrome d'Hiver in Paris, which he won with a time of 39 hours, 28 minutes and eight seconds. The race was not "particularly interesting", according to the Dutch magazine De Kampioen , because you could see from the start that Stéphane was the stronger driver of the two.
