Auguste Unertl (born July 12, 1864 in Mering , Friedberg district office , Upper Bavaria ; † 1941 in Waldkirchen , Wolfstein district , Lower Bavaria ) was a German writer and patroness .

Life

Unertl came from a wealthy family of manufacturers from Mering near Augsburg and was highly educated and influential. She was married to a municipal secretary in Waldkirchen. She maintained a literary salon in her Waldkirchen villa .

In 1896 she met the later folk poet Emerenz Meier , became her motherly friend and patron, and established connections with newspaper and magazine editors . In 1899 she helped Meier to audiences with Therese von Bayern and Ludwig Ferdinand von Bayern in Munich , but the hope for a scholarship was not fulfilled. Meier remained friends with Unertl even after she emigrated to the USA (1906) and corresponded with her regularly in 56 (surviving) letters from Chicago until her death (1928). Meier's literary estate went to Unertl in Waldkirchen, where it was processed by the local poet Max Peinkofer .

Unertl was also friends with the writers Hans Carossa and Jules Siber .

She is said to have been engaged to the Swedish painter Anders Zorn .
