Auguste-Léopold van Werveke (born August 2, 1866 in Luxembourg - Grund , Grand Duchy of Luxembourg ; † January 30, 1927 in Luxembourg, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg) was a Luxembourgish architect , drawing teacher (professeur de dessin) and painter .

Life

Van Werveke, son of an old Flemish sergeant, younger brother of the historian Nicolas van Werveke and the geologist Leopold van Werveke , father of the journalist Gust van Werveke (1896–1976), went to Düsseldorf in 1884 , where he worked at the Royal Prussian until 1885 Art academy studied painting with Heinrich Lauenstein . Professionally, he worked as an architect and from 1896 to 1920 as a drawing teacher at the École d'artisans de l'État (today Lycée technique des arts et métiers in Luxembourg- Limpertsberg ). As a draftsman he created a number of architectural depictions , as a painter vedute and landscapes , often in watercolor . His buildings include a workers' colony in Steinfort and a primary school in Gréiwemaacher. Van Werveke was one of the founders of the Cercle artistique de Luxembourg . Together with Jean Curot (1882–1954) he received the Prix ​​Grand-Duc Adolphe in 1907 . Van Werveke is the namesake of the Fondation Auguste van Werveke-Hanno , which his daughter Anita had in his will , a foundation that awards scholarships to architecture and art students in Luxembourg.
