Auguste Laura Luise von Hardenberg , née von Gemmingen (born August 1, 1809 in Bonfeld ; † April 9, 1893 in Karlsruhe ) was involved in the Baden women's association and has received several awards for her services in nursing the sick and the wounded, as well as in looking after the troops.

Life

She was the youngest daughter of the manor owner Karl Philipp von Gemmingen (1771-1831) from his second marriage to Eberhardine Christiane von Degenfeld- Neuhaus (1773-1847). She spent her childhood on the family estate in the Bonfeld Upper Castle , and as a young woman she joined the Katharinenstift in Stuttgart . 1828 she married in Meiningen Johannes von Hardenberg , which in the duchy of Saxe-Altenburg located Senioratsgüter Schlöben , Rabis and Moeckern possessed. After the death of her husband in 1841, she moved from Meiningen to Karlsruhe in 1842 to live with her mother and a sister, who had meanwhile also moved there. There she was involved in the voluntary poor and sick care of the Baden women's association and in 1865 became president of its fourth department. For her achievements in the war years of 1866 and 1870/71 in the care of the sick and wounded in the military hospitals and in the care of the troops in the field, she received the Badischer Gedenkzeichen , the Prussian Cross of Merit for women and virgins and the war memorial for non-combatants on white ribbon. After her death, Grand Duchess Luise arranged a memorial service in the chapel of the Ludwig Wilhelm Hospital in Karlsruhe, which, in addition to the Grand Duchess, also Grand Duke Friedrich and other members of the ruling dynasty of Baden attended. She was buried in Meiningen at the side of her husband.
