Augustin Grischow

Augustin Grischow (born December 13, 1683 in Anklam ; † November 10, 1749 in Berlin ; also August Grischow ) was a German mathematician and meteorologist .

Life

Augustin Grischow was the son of an Anklam businessman. He went to school in Anklam and Danzig and studied theology, philosophy and mathematics at the University of Jena . After receiving his master's degree, he gave lectures in Jena as an adjunct in the philosophical faculty. After he was widely known through the publication of several writings, he followed a call to a professorship in mathematics at the Berlin Collegium Medicum in 1725 . A little later he became a member of the Academy of Sciences . Here he concentrated on astronomical and meteorological studies, for which he wrote other writings, some of which were published. He devoted himself to improving the barometer and other instruments.
